Once upon a time I was in college. My group of friends did a ton of fun things like Cubs games, concerts, played Frisbee, softball and, no surprise, lots of drinking games. Ahh…those were the days. But I digress…
One late night following a fun day of swimming and grilling out the group was hanging out by the pool, sipping our “pops” and talking about life. I was involved in a deep discussion with one of my good guy friends about the state of his love life. He wondered if he would ever be able to find the “one” girl.
Hey, Good Lookin’
Now this guy was a super handsome dude with great charisma and joie de vivre.
Everyone loved hanging around him. Yet, he struggled in the relationship department. He had lots of girl friends but nothing ever quite stuck.
So, perhaps in one of my first life coaching moments, I asked him to do something that I think is a valuable New Year Manifestation exercise.
I told him to write down all the things he was looking for in that perfect partner.
I had him read them to me and then put the paper in an envelope, carry it with him and read it whenever necessary.
Then, the most important part of this exercise, I suggested he stop looking for the perfect partner and become one instead.
He was to focus on every item he had written down and become his version of those things.
I am happy to say he has been happily married for almost 20 years now.
This is not Just a Tool for the Lovelorn
This manifestation tool works for any area of your life.
As a career coach, let’s take a shot at manifesting your ideal career.
Here is my example of how this might look. Get out a piece of paper and ask yourself:
What do you want in a perfect career?
To use your skills and talents on a regular basis
To collaborate with others
Now become your list at your current job
If you arelooking for flexibilitythen figure out how to make that happen today. If you are in a management role see if you can make that happen for members of your team.
You want touse your skills and talents regularly.Do you know what they are? Make a list. Write down how you are using them today and what skills and talents you feel are being underutilized. Now, seek out projects that allow you to do what you are good at more often.
You want tocollaborate with others. Are you someone who is fun to collaborate with? How can you collaborate more? Can you volunteer your time on a project or committee at your work or for your local association?
The key to manifesting what you want in your life is to get clear on where you are at, where you want to go and then creating opportunities to make that happen. Manifesting is an action word. Time to take action and manifest what you want in 2018.
